Artist Statement
As a filmmaker and interdisciplinary artist, my work is rooted in personal and family narratives, filtered through themes of female and immigrant identity, cultural memory, and the entanglement of nature and technology. I believe the more personal, the more universal. I’m drawn to materials and processes that hold time and memory, especially analog film. Working with outdated formats like 16mm and 8mm, I embrace imperfection through eco-friendly coffee development, hand-processing, and direct animation methods such as scratching or painting on film. Found materials — plants, rusted tools, debris, home videos — often weave their way into my work, adding texture and fragility that speak to both decay and resilience. My process is experimental and intuitive, allowing accident and chance to shape the outcome.
My practice moves fluidly across form and scale - from single-channel experimental films and video essays to multi-channel installations and live expanded cinema performances. I approach film as a sculptural and spatial medium, dissolving the boundaries between the screen and the audience, and between past and present.
