Call for Artwork: Gray Area

Juried by a committee of six Kingston Gallery artists:
Mira Cantor, Susan Emmerson, Julie S Graham, Veronica A Pérez, Jamal Thorne, and Chantal Zakari

Kingston Gallery is calling for new work for an exhibition entitled Gray Area. We are looking for artists whose work is relevant to our current contemporary world in its lack of clarity or abundance of ambiguity. The subject is open to interpretation, and can address the title conceptually or formally.

Number of entries allowed per artist: up to 5 images

Submission Fee: $35.00

All media will be considered. Submission is by online jpegs that should not exceed 1200 pixels in the longest dimension and should not exceed 5MB. Selected artwork must be dropped off and picked up at the gallery; no shipping. The gallery is not responsible for damage to artwork that is poorly displayed or damaged in transit. All 2D work should be ready to hang, and works on paper must be framed. Artists are responsible for the display of digital media (monitors, etc) and 3D work must include a list of needs such as pedestals, mounts, etc. There is no minimum size requirement, but once installed, work may not exceed 6 feet in height. The gallery will take a 50% commission. Artwork must represent the jpegs submitted online, and, if framed, look professional: i.e., no clip frames. Please email with any questions.

A maximum of 5 entries per artist may be submitted for consideration.
Please prepare carefully; no revisions are possible after submission is complete.

About the jurors

Mira Cantor is a painter, Professor of Art at Northeastern University, and a Kingston Member since 2013.

Susan Emmerson practiced for nearly two decades as an ear, nose and throat surgeon and is now a mixed-media artist and a Kingston Member since 2014.

Julie S Graham is on the Painting Faculty at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and has been a Kingston Member since 2014.

Veronica A Pérez is the 2017-18 Kingston Gallery Emerging Artist and recently completed her MFA from Maine College of Art.

Jamal Thorne is on the faculty at Northeastern University, is the recipient of the 2012 Joan Mitchell Foundation MFA Grant and has been a Kingston Member since 2015.

Chantal Zakari is an artist, designer, professor of the Practice at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston at Tufts University and has been a Kingston Member since 2016.
