Gallery Artists: Rose Olson
These paintings reveal their final surface color through
s layering process. Colors painted in translucent layers
resulting in a luminous surface with a sense of open space.
Soft and bold horizontal bands are added to contribute to
the openness and create quiet movements in space. The simple
marks caused by the vertical and horizontal brush strokes
contain the irregularity of the human hand and are intended
to work dynamically with the formality of the mathematically
placed bands. Both are the result of an obsessive endeavor
to create a sense of calm.
Rose is a Boston painter who exhibits widely in the New
England and New York areas. During the past year, she has
had one person shows at Hallspace and Kingston Gallery in
Boston. Recent group exhibitions include: Generations
III, A.I.R. Gallery, Soho, New England New Talent,
Fitchburg Museum, Large: Drawings by Members of the
Montserrat Faculty, Montserrat College of Art, Beverly,
MA, and Alumni/AE Juried Exhibition, Tufts University
Gallery, Aidekman Arts Center, Medford, MA. In discussing
her work, a recent reviewer stated, Rose Olson focuses
on the brightness of color and its translation into light.
