Open Call: Emerging Arts Writer Residency

Emerging Arts Writer Residency

Apply to Kingston Gallery's Emerging Arts Writer Residency

Deadline to apply: February 15, 2020
Duration: 14 months residency

The Emerging Arts Writer Residency at Kingston Gallery offers an art writer the opportunity to join a community of practicing artists, write and publish critical essays on art exhibits, and work with a mentor during a 14-month residency. The residency will start April 2020, beginning with two months to get to know the gallery members, followed by twelve months to write. Kingston Gallery, an artist-run gallery in Boston's SOWA district, exhibits two or three different shows each month, approximately 24-28 shows a year.

The Emerging Arts Writer will be required to write two essays each month for the Gallery's blog through working closely with the gallery artists, the writing mentors and the Media Relations Director. Studio visits with gallery artists are strongly encouraged. The essays will cover upcoming gallery shows, reflect discussions with the artists about their artwork, and aim to contextualize the work in the larger contemporary art discourse, art historical references and current world issues.

The Emerging Arts Writer position is open to writers who have completed a BFA, MFA or a BA in Art History, Criticism, Curatorial Studies or other related disciplines.
